My Favorite Food

The “bandeja paisa” is a typical dish of the coffee region. Likewise, though it has not gained any international prize of gastronomy, this has turned into the representative food of the Colombians.

The “bandeja paisa” contains rice, pork scratching, fried egg, ground meat, pataconas, sausage, avocado, arepa and bean. The beans are prepared of the following way they are left in water the previous night. They are cooked adding oil, when they are soft we add salt. Meanwhile the meat ground sautés in oil to middle fire adding the half of the hogao, it mixes well, the pork scratchings are fried until they stay to the wished point. When the beans are soft the stew is added and they are cooked for 10 minutes to give them thickness. In a frying pan oil is placed to fry the pataconas and the eggs.

The bean is served together with the rice and adds the pork scratching, the ground meat, the pataconas, the sausage, the avocado and the arepa. I tasted the “bandeja paisa” when I went to Pereira. It is a very delicious plate whenever I go to the “eje cafetero” the first thing that I do it is to eat up a “bandeja paisa”.

The Colombian people can say that “bandeja paisa” is part of the great variety of food of our beautiful country. The “paisas” people are very proud of their gastronomy, especially of this delicious dish. For years, they have showed this dish to all who visits that wonderful region of the Andina region.
